Shillong Lajong FC has grabbed a prized asset to their attacking department with the high profile signing of Portuguese youngster Edinho Junior on loan for the rest of the season. The Portuguese youngster signed for Blackburn Rovers from Sporting Olhanense U-19 (Portugal) after being learnt that Scottish giants were also interested to sign Edinho Junior. Edinho Junior, son of Ex-Brazilian international footballer, Edon do Amaral Neto, is a Portuguese national but Brazilian origin. The historic move of the Portuguese youngster is one of its kind as it is the first time that a high profile English Club have loaned a player to an i-League club. The 18 year old has already featured for the Indian based V H Group owned Championship side Blackburn Rovers in several matches.

Commenting on this historic deal, Balaji Rao, who had a major hand in making it happen, the Managing Director of Venky’s, was quoted saying “We are pleased to be associated with Shillong Lajong FC through the loan of young Edinho. We look forward to opportunities to help develop our players and football in India through strategic partnerships.”

“We are thankful to Blackburn Rovers for providing us with a player of Edinho’s quality. He will be an incisive edge to Lajong’s forward line and will definitely add to the quality of the game on the field.” said Larsing Ming, the General Secretary of Shillong Lajong FC.

Dhruv Ratra, CEO-Sports & Marketing Anglian Holdings, summarized the deal by saying “This exchange of talent – a first of its kind in Indian football – will set a precedent for future exchanges of knowledge and information which in turn will help drive the game of football forward in India. Edinho is an exciting young player and Indian fans will enjoy his exploits on the field.”
