Chidi Edeh, Sensational display form the Nigerian
saw him grab a hat-trick while also setting
up a goal for his team
Kingfisher East Bengal demolished their Myanmar counterparts, Yangon United in the AFC Cup 2013 Pre-Quarter Finals 5-1 played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium. Nigerian goal machine scored a hat-trick while Mehtab Hossain and Penn Orji got a piece of the cake each. The game was mostly dominated by East Bengal and they were very clinical in front of the goal. Penn Orji got his name to the scoresheet as early as on the 2nd minute of the game from a acrobatic effort after some smart work from the right side by Chidi Edeh. Andrew Barisic assisted Chidi Edeh with grounded cross from the right to make the scoreline 2-0 for the hosts in the 25th minute. After the exciting first-half display from the red and golds in the first half, East Bengal skipper registered a goal from himself with a superbly placed effort from outside the box making it 3-0 and thus sealing the game. More was to come from East Bengal as Chidi Edeh managed to get his hat-trick after some sloppy defending from the visiting side which saw Chidi finding himself unmarked in the box and getting enough time to get his second while a solo effort saw him get the third goal and thus completing his hat-trick. Yangon earned a late consolation thanks to Brazilian forward Cezar.

Yangon United coach Ivan Kolev pointed out that missing key players was the problem for them, but also spoke highly of East Bengal's foreign recruits. “We were missing the services of five of our defenders who were either suspended or injured. This had a bearing on the result as their replacements were inexperienced and were playing for the first time this season,” said Yangon coach after the match.
