India: Robin Singh(10th)

Team India showed great fighting spirit to register their first points in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Joint Qualification, as they defeated Guam by 1-0 in the Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on 12th November 2015.

Backed by a ferocious crowd and accompanied by a heavy downpour, the Blue Tigers roared even with a man less to get the morale boosting victory in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Robin Singh scored the only goal of the game with an absolute gem of a goal when his sweet right footed effort ricocheted off the woodwork to cross the line.

India played with more composure and heart after they got the lead in the 10th minute. The job was made tougher for the Blue Tigers when Sehnaj Singh was given the marching orders in the 43rd minute after a bad tackle. The team fought hard, most of the times had to defend barring occasional counter attacks featuring the ever-so-lively Sunil Chhetri in almost every move. Guam had however put the ball in the back of the net twice but both the times the goals were disallowed. India's defense stood strong and managed to weather the storm till the final whistle thanks to some wonderful defending featuring the likes of Sandesh Jhingan and top notch goalkeeping by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

The win against Guam keeps India still sitting rock bottom of Group D with two more games to go, against Iran(24th March 2016) and Turkmenistan(29th March 2016).

INDIA: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu; Pritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan, Arnab Mondal, Narayan Das; Romeo Fernandes (Debut for India – 500th Player to play for India – replaced by Harmanjot Singh Khabra – 45th), Sehnaj Singh, Eugenson Lyngdoh, Sunil Chhetri (Captain), Cavin Lobo (90 + 1’ – Augustine Fernandes), Robin Singh (57’ – Jeje Lalpekhlua).
